Below is a blog entry posted by a colleague of mine on a chiropractic blog that I subscribe to. It is another testimony of the amazing changes that chiropractic produces in people's health and life. It is important to note that chiropractic does not do the healing. Your body does the healing. Chiropractic enables your body's natural inborn ability to heal to work better by removing the interference to the healing. it's really that simple.

37 year old male, art and music teacher went through a stressful period at work 2 years ago resulting in stiff neck, dizziness, fogginess, mood changes, depression, talk of suicide, cut off from most friends, and he stopped exercising.

Went to MD. Thought it was sinus problem. Surgery. No help. Went to another MD...said it was a panic disorder. Prescribed Clonazepam. On Clonazepam for 2 years. Prescribed PT twice weekly for several months. No improvement. Went to a Naturopathic Doctor who has been doing cranio-sacral with little to no benefit. The ND sent him to me 3 months ago. He agreed to a Corrective Action Plan. We did a re-evaluation today and talked about progress. He has not taken his Clonazepam for the entire month of December. He stopped PT, cranio-sacral and has only had ChiropracTIC since December 1. He said he not only feels better, functions better, but he has quit taking poison which may have been perpetuating his symptoms (I printed out the side effects of Clonazepam and showed him that the side effects of the medication were the same as his complaints).

One of his original Chiropractic goals was to quit taking medication. The other was to feel more clear headed for the kids. He has accomplished both goals.

Back pain is what usually motivate people to seek help from a doctor of chiropractic. It is important to know and understand what low back pain is and what it means. Low back pain is a symptom. Symptoms usually manifest as some kind of pain, disability, or unusual body function (i.e. fever, runny nose, headache, fatigue).

Just like a smoke detector in your home tells you that there is a fire or smoke, your body alarms you that something is wrong by producing symptoms. You recognize that when the smoke detector sounds that there is fire or smoke. You realize that the alarm is not the problem, just the warning that there is a problem. Likewise, your symptoms (low back pain) are your body’s way of warning you that there is a problem. It is important to recognize that the symptom in most cases is not the problem.

So merely attempting to eliminate the symptoms will not produce better health. Research shows that just eliminating low back pain does not resolve the underlying problem and your chances of recurrence is very high. Worst than that, the underlying cause of your low back pain will lead to degeneration of your spinal joints.

So it is important when working with your chiropractor to not only relieve the pain, but fix the underlying cause. You will be much healthier and much happier.
